Dance and Movement Therapy

Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) is based on the understanding that the mind and body are deeply connected. Sometimes, emotions and experiences are stored in the body and can be hard to put into words. Movement offers a way to explore and express these feelings safely and creatively.

Movement is our first language. Even before we can speak, we use our bodies to communicate and connect. In DMT, this natural form of expression becomes a path to healing, growth, and self-discovery.

Dance/Movement Therapy is not a dance class. It does not focus on learning steps or performing. Instead, it encourages authentic movement that feels true to you. When we move with breath, heartbeat, subtle shifts, or playful exploration, we are already dancing. DMT celebrates the power of movement to help us heal, connect, and thrive.

Dance/Movement Therapy can be helpful for people of all ages and abilities, including:

You do not need any dance experience, as this is not a dance class. You only need a willingness to use your body in whatever way feels comfortable and authentic to you. All movement is welcome.

How Does it Work?

Each Dance/Movement Therapy session is individualized to meet clients where they are, including structured movement, creative play, art making, guided imagery, breathwork, and/or mirroring with the therapist.

By exploring how emotions live in the body, clients build somatic awareness—the skill of noticing sensations without judgment. This deepens emotional insight, eases stress, and strengthens connection to yourself and others.

DMT helps regulate stress, build new emotional patterns, and strengthen self-awareness, empathy, and trust. These experiences support resilience, confidence, and a greater sense of ease in daily life.

Our therapists integrate polyvagal-informed approaches, using movement, breath, rhythm, and sound to calm the nervous system and support a sense of safety and connection.

You don’t need to be a dancer—just a willingness to move in your own way. All movement is valid, and sessions are paced to match your comfort and readiness.

Experience change — don’t just talk about it.
